The purpose of the project is to create safer and more functional transfers and operator reliefs at one of the busiest sites for MDOT MTA, downtown Baltimore, between bus routes on Baltimore Street, Metro SubwayLink, and Light RailLink services. This will improve safety for pedestrians and vehicles, pedestrian circulation, and ADA accessibility, traffic operations and connectivity to the downtown community. The project requires an active stakeholder outreach effort, as the location involves multiple business owners, hotels, new building developments, and an outspoken community. The project also faces high design and construction costs, which requires innovative ways to obtain funding.
